Earlier this Fall The Country Malt Group completed a multi-phase expansion of their original location in Champlain, New York. As the flagship of the company, the Champlain facility was first built by the hands of the owner and his father. That first effort has lead to eight locations throughout North America with centers in:

To meet the demands of their customers, the team at Country Malt Group needed an East Cost location capable of running 24 hours a day processing malt and hops, milling raw product, packaging, and shipping to breweries throughout the country.

As January comes to a close, it's high time to get all the logistics in order for the start of the racing season. The GVCC Giro series is little over a month off--with the opening of the team's race calendar at Hornby Hills in early April.

On-the-bike the prep is pretty straight forward: Log base miles and for those prioritizing the early Spring races the intensity ramps up from here on out.

Off-the-bike, team members are getting the race rigs in order, like this beauty Mike Madden will be using in races against the clock.

Team managers are also at work finalizing kit proofs, working with DeFeet on team sock orders, Rudy Project for helmet and sunglass needs, and HandleBars for everything else from bikes and frames to nutrition, tires, tubes, wheelsets, bike fittings and builds.

Specialized SL4: A Closer Look

For 2012, team members have the choice of the Specialized Venge and SL4 complete bikes and framesets for the road, or the Specialized Transition for time trials. CNB-CMG look to the Stumpjumper 29er or CruX for when it gets dirty. Handlebars Cycle Company serves as the team service course and makes sure our rides are ready to roll before they hit the roads or trails.

2012 SL4

SL4 FACT IS 10r features a tapered head tube and OSBB bottom bracket.

On a first glance the frame resembles its SL2 and SL3 predecessors. But closer inspection reveals significantly larger top and bottom tubes.

The sleek over sized shape of the top tube contributes to the hourglass taper of the head tube.

The SL4 OSBB set-up is designed to work with the proprietary S-Works crank, but works well with any BB30 set-up.

The over sized down tube on the new SL4 is a major departure from the SL2 and SL3 models from last year.

Also new for 2012 are the internally routed cables for a cleaner look and enhanced shifting performance.

The new SL4 is truly remarkable in its stiffness to weight ratio with a 19% improvement over last year's SL3. Added features like the tapered head tube, one-piece bottom bracket-chainstay and internal cable routing make this Specialized purest expression of racing performance.

Halloween Cross at Camp Arrowhead

October 30th was the annual Halloween Cross race at Camp Arrowhead. One of the longest standing cross races in the region, this year featured near freezing temperatures and mud. Here's is Mike's recap.

The Camp Arrowhead race was cold and muddy with several very slick areas that made you ride on the edge of staying up or crashing hard. There were about 35 riders today, and we were the second wave behind the Masters Group.

I wanted to hang back and follow others the first few laps, but somehow I was leading the pack for the first quarter of the first lap. After an early crash, I found myself chasing for the rest of the race.

With a lap to go I could see one of the riders that passed me when I crashed, and he was the new target. As I passed the finish line I made up a lot of time and was closing in on the leaders. I had to settle for 7th place. The top finishers were all within about 30 seconds of each other. I know that 3rd through 7th place were really close, seconds.

Great event and venue. Lots of fun.

Cobb's Hill CX: Mike C. on the Podium

Cobb's Hill was the second stop on the 3 series FMV CX races for 2012. Mike C and Mike Burri represented the team. Read below for Mike C's race recap.

The Cobb’s Hill race course was similar to last years course with a couple extra tight turns which made things difficult at times. Before the race I studied the competition to see who I was going to battle with. Well it turned out that Aaron Johnson from Team Ommegang Syracuse who has been tearing up the CX Races this year and Doug Rusho the Expert Mountain Bike Racer would be the main competition.

I started the race in the second row and had to aggressively get around riders. I began to pick people off and follow Eric G. At the first tight hairpin turn, Eric overshot the turn, and I slipped ahead of him and began to open up a gap. I stayed solo off the front until lap #3.

As the race went on, the dirt at the beginning of the single track into the woods began to really loosen up. As I went into the turn and began to climb over the roots my traction was compromised and I went down. As I scrambled to collect myself, Aaron was right on my tail. We rode together for a short time; however, he kept attacking every chance that he could. He could really climb. I was stronger on the flats and turns, but he began to pull away on the Cobbs Hill section, and I could not real him in.

Now, the dirt is loose and I know it and as I went into lap # 4 I had to get off the bike again since I could not get any traction! Now I am losing time.... Here comes Doug Rusho on his Carbon 29’er and he scaled the trail no problem. Now we are fighting for 2nd into the last lap. As we approach the barriers, I quickly dismount my bike and Doug bunny hops over them and passes me with a blur. By the time I got on my bike he was around the corner and the chase was on.

Doug had a gap that I could not close. I ended up holding on for 3rd place without any problem.

I learned a lot during the race and will take my experience to Parma where I will see Aaron again. I was only off by 30-60 seconds and I know where I can make up time to get the win. Aaron is a tough opponent, taking down solid rdiers all season.

Jamestown Classic: The final road race of the season.

Pete's recap:

Arrived in Rhoade Island on Sunday afternoon to 86 degrees and sunshine. Dave and Rick (Ruud Racing) rode out together. We met up with Dave Hanson (Rouge Racing) and rode the race course, some new pavement, badly needed in a few spots.

Monday morning, our race went off at ten to 75 degrees and beautiful skies. At the 3 mile mark, I decided to test the legs and took off, looking back at the 70 guys behind me,I said "take a chance". About 2 miles later a group of 3 bridged up.

Two of the riders were motivated from and big teams; the third was a major sandbagger. For 16 miles we turned ourselves inside out (except for the one anchor). We were caught finally, so it was time to rest and make the best of it.

Two guys finally got off the front and no one chased. We got to the far side of the island, and I went again trying to bridge up or get the peleton to chase. When I got to the lighthouse, I attacked again but was brought back. With only 5 miles left I thought my race was over, but Dave was sitting good.

We hit the long gradual climb 1 mile from the finish and the fireworks started. I was way back and Dave was near the front. I moved up 20 places but decided to sit on and sprint, wrong move. Dave made the same mistake. I was boxed in and ended up coasting over the line instead of sprinting. Dave was 10th, and I was19th.

Yes we analyzed the race for 7 hours all the way home. Rick was 20th in his race and looking forward to next season. Dave Hanson (Rouge Racing) was 6th in the 4s. This is a really nice late season race, well organized and now 36 years running.

With the close of the 2011 road season, we’d like to thank our sponsors and supporters. This year has been one of our most successful seasons of the past ten years. We stood on podiums at some of the larger events in the region. Won races both on and off-road and earned a medal in the NYS Championships.

This is made possible with the support of Canandaigua National Bank, Country Malt Group, Research Financial Group, RV&E Bike and Skate and our equipment sponsors. We were also proud to be able to contribute to the efforts of the GVCC, Legacy Cycling, GVCC leadership and others in the development of the GVCC/G2 Program and the Dechau Time Trial.

Looking ahead, we are super excited to see the team branch out into new territory. In 2012, we’ll see greater commitment to racing off-road with Mike Dispenza focusing his year around the local fat tire races. This year we’ve added some strength to our CX team with Mike Corcimiglia chasing podiums at the FMV series and NYS Championships. We hope to see this aspect of the team grow in 2012, too.

Team members have plans to finish off their categories and move up the ranks during the early part of the 2012 road season. Guys are already planning training camps next spring in Arizona, and we hope to be able to repeat as the overall team champions in our local G-Tour series.

In the meantime, we’ll be racing some CX, taking time off the bikes to ski, snowmobile, hike and kick back with some of our sponsor’s best malty beverages.

Burri 5th in First CX Race of 2011

Mike Burri headed on down south of Buffalo to kick off the Cross season. Here is his race recap from the first team cross race of 2011.

Since the race is put on by John Roden you can expect a challenging, fast, technical course. While it wasn't as technical as the course he set up last year, it was challenging enough. The fast, twisty sections bordering a pond had me wondering if my saddle would also act as a flotation device. I raced the Masters 45+ field that saw 15 guys line up. I was able to slot in just behind the front 5 guys at the start line. At the gun it was gas on to a down hill, off-camber section with several turns. The field stretched out pretty fast as we encountered another fast downhill then 180 degree slippery uphill. The top 4 guys started to pull away and my chase was on. 3 guys caught me by the end of lap 2 and we see-sawed back and forth for half lap. Gradually those 3 started to wear down and I pulled away from them and soloed the last 2 1/2 laps to take fifth.

CNB-Country Malt Podiums at Smethport Circuit Race

This is a fun race, arrived in Smethport to sunny skies and 55 degrees. Only about 50 riders in the 53-mile race but all looking to grab the cash, 100 dollar primes each lap.

Naturally I attacked right off the start only to see that the Z team out of Toronto was going to mark me all day. Few more attacks and settled in toward the front, Dave and Trax (Nalgene) were sitting in just watching the fireworks. Went for first prime but was third decided to not contest the next two. Lap four I was feeling spent and rode on the back, now down to 30 riders. Once into town I slowly moved up and the final small climb the sprinting starts had good position to the outside, right turn down main street 100-meter sprint to the line. Found my legs but came up 6 inches short for second place. Not sure exact placing for Dave and Trax (Nalgene) but they mixed it up in the sprint finishing just outside the top 10.

LATOJA Race Report

Two of our guys, Dave and Pete, went out to challenge LATOJA Bike Race, a 206 mile race between Logan, Utah and Jackson, Wyoming. Both finished high up in the overall, Pete in 18th and Dave in 22nd. Here is their race report:

Just returned home from 10 days in Utah, it was a great trip. Dave and I drove up to Logan, Utah from SLC on Friday, spun around town for an hour, checked in at registration and ate as much food as we could, then tried to sleep. This 206 mile race is a beast. Having done it last year, I felt ready and confident; I"m not sure what Dave was thinking, probably wondering why he lets me talk him into this nonsense.

Saturday morning greated us with 50 degrees and calm skies and our race goes off at 6:34 barely light. There were 74 starters in the masters 45+.

First leg, 34 miles to Preston Idaho, was flat and uneventful. The first feed zone went great. My son Seth and his buddy Matt worked the feed zones for us as rookies and were flawless, this race can be won or lost in these chaotic feed zones.

The first mountain pass over Strawberry Pass is long, but only a few times pitches up to 8 percent. I felt good right up toward the front, awesome decent.

Second mountain pass over Geneva summit started to thin the herd and then right onto Salt river pass long and a steady 8 percent. I was on the front over the top but missed the KOM, but I and knew this was my day. There was a long decent then lots of long valley floor roads. We got mixed in with other fields creating a bit of confusion.

Feed zone 6 was in Alpine Wyoming. We told the guys I needed 2 bottles, and I that I felt good. There was complete chaos in the feed zone: crashes and lots of spent racers.

Now 47 miles to finish, we head into the Snake River Canyon. Then I hit a rock and blew a tire.--no neutral support in sight so change the tire as quick as I can and realize my co2 is a dud, 40psi is all I got. Jump back on and decide to make the best of it go into TT mode and stay between 22 and 29 mph for 10 miles till I reach a sizeable chase group. That was the most pain I have ever put myself in.

Finally, I have the Tetons in sight and I am inspired by the 4k to go sign. In a group of 8, I ramped it up to 25mph and said “goodbye!” What a day finishing 18^th, 10 minutes off the top 3 riders and 6 minutes off the chase group off 14.

There’s always next year. Can"t give you all of details of Dave’s day, but I can tell you he is the toughest guy I know. He finished 22nd 8 minutes after me, and I met him at the line with a big hug, not being a climber he certainly left a lot of riders behind him, and was sprinting to the line wide open. What a season, thanks to eveyone for your support and friendship.

I Like Them Apples: Preview of The Victor Apple Farm CX Course

On Sunday morning, Brian joined about twenty other area 'crossers to preview The Victor Apple Farm race course. This September 18th the Apple Farm will host its inaugural Fall Festival Cyclocross Race. The Victor Apple Farm will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary this Fall and as part of the celebration they will host an early season 'cross race, have music, crafts and of course the best cinder in the area. I've been taking my family out there for the past few years and it's good old-fashioned Fall fun.

The good folks at the Apple Farm let us ride their course today and chime in on the course design. Featuring some fun and fast downhills in the first section, the race's overall terrain favors racers with punchy power and solid turning skills. Plenty of dirt could make for a very interesting racing in September rain. With one tight left-hander leading into a run-up (I rode it today, but on race day it might be better suited to run) there are few sections that cause riders to decide upon riding or running. With a long drag back through solo-sucking grass, the race to the start/finish line will be decisive come race day.

It was great to get the cx bike out and ride some very fun and scenic trails and see some of the mountain bike set out riding. Unlike Ellison Park, Cobbs Hill, Parma, and the Syracuse races, the Apple Farm course might suit Mt. Bikers a bit, think the upper sections of the Farmall Hill Challenge Course. Just watch out for the "holes" from uprooted trees. Sort of like B-Kill without being able to see them coming.

Looks to be a great place to race or spectate and get some of what NY is known for, Apples!

CNB-Country Malt Cycling Animate Thater

CNB-Country Malt set the markers at this year’s Chris Thater Memorial Race. Racers were greeted with 80 degree temps and high humidity. Thater marks the end or near end to the road-racing season for many area racers. As such the fields are deep and often the racing fast and competitive. The folks that run Thater put on a real pro-like race with a challenging course, big crowds and live announcers.

This year’s addition of the race started slowly with field packed with sprinters, it always is. True to form CNB-Country Malt laid down some initial attacks looking to open up the race. Pete and Dave Hoag hit the field hard several times in the early going, but no dice.

By about lap 10 or so Pete finally broke the elastic counter attacking Dave following a prime sprint. Getting a solid gap, Pete showed why he earned silver in this year’s NYS TT Championships. In full-on TT mode he increased his lead to 40 seconds, more impressive was the fact he stayed away 7 laps picking up a prime and getting our sponsors some well deserved recognition from the race announcer.

As the race organizers to began to throw in late primes, Pete was dragged back into the fold. The team continued to stir it up, Dave asserting himself late with multiple attacks.

With 2 to go the winner got away for good paving the way for an insane field sprint for the remaining places. The team tried to move Dave up safely, but lots of fresh legs from the sprinters saw our best placing in 13^th for Pete and 14th for Dave.

Great effort by the squad in what will be one of last road races for us this season.

Pete and Mike Crack Top Ten at East Aurora Road Race

Pete Hoag, Dave Hoag and Mike Corcimiglia contested the 2011 East Aurora Road race on Sunday. The weather started out with wet roads and a large group. The race was 47 miles on a two-loop circuit featuring several long climbs.

The first lap was fast. The sky opened up and along came the rain. Going downhill at 51 MPH with slick conditions is hair raising! Despite repeated attacks, nothing stuck.

Into the last climb the pack was cut in half and the attacks started. Pete drifted a bit on the final climb, Mike crested 3rd. Dave showed some of his best climbing form of the season, well timed just head of LATOJA.

The boys approached the last turn in great position for a fast drawn out gallop to the line. Everyone was really strung out at this point.

Approaching the finish line Pete and Mike were in a top 4 positions with Andrew from MVP/G2 on our wheels. As we wound up the sprint it got a little hairy, people cutting others off, slightly slowing down, then sprint again.

Pete finished 6th and Mike finished 7th. The Top 7 places were really tight! Dave finished strong as well in the top 13. Great showing for Andrew in his final race as a member of the MVP/G2 program. Looking forward to seeing his growth as he exits the junior ranks.

Pete wins the Tour of Millersburg stage race, brother Dave takes 11th

Pete and Dave both had a very good weekend at the Tour of Millersburg in Pennsylvania. Pete won the opening time trial, took 2nd in the crit and 4th in the road race to seal the overall GC crown.

Dave road a great race in support of Pete and took some very good results for himself. Dave slotted into the top ten for the road race, top 15 in crit and top 20 in the TT.

2011 Tour of Catskills

Without a doubt the 2011 Tour of Catskills was the toughest 3 days of racing CNB-CMG team member, Mike Burri had ever done. He says: "No hills like that around here."

The race opened last Friday with a 12 mile TT featuring a slight uphill finish at Hunter Mtn. With a Pro-like finish line similar to Batenkill, Mike posted what for him was a very average time.

The second day of racing was a 65 mile road race with about 2900 feet of elevation and two major climbs, the final climb up Devil's Kitchen was a 3-4 mile brutal climb that was at about the 58 mile mark. Mike's goal? Stay with the main pack until the base of the last climb then climb at his pace and minimize any potential damage. The climb was all it is hyped up to be, very steep sections and unrelenting. The leaders gradually rode away and shattered the rest of the group. Mike minimized the damage and made the time cut, had to be within 20% of finishing time, with no problems. At the end of day 2, Mike felt good going into stage 3, a 60 mile road race.

Stage 3 was hot and extremely humid. The masters race didn't start til 11:30, so it was real hot by the time Mike set off. The elevation on this day was actually 3200 with 2 killer KOMs. Mike stayed close to the front at the base of most of the preliminary climbs heading up to the first KOM and was climbing well. Looking at the profile of KOM #1, it was clear the selection would be made there and true to predictions that climb shattered the group. Mike clawed, spit, scratched and dug as deep to be one of 13 riders to pull away and by the top of the KOM the rest of the field was shattered still crawling up the hill. This was at the 30 mile mark. Mike was now in the breakaway group with the yellow jersey and the KOM leader.

Mike's group travelled through the feed zone, as he took a few minutes to recover. About a mile after the feed zone there was another short steep hill of about 1/4 mile. Mike was dislodged from the group there and faced "no man's land" with 20 miles to go. True to form Mike just keep cranking away. Note, there was also a 25% time cut to be counted in the GC as well.

Then came KOM 2, harder than the first KOM with some sections like Bopple Rd hill in Bristol. Mike powered over the top and faced 10 miles to go. With 5 miles to go, in mid 80s and high humidity, Mike was still soloing as the lone chaser. Into the final uphill finish Mike hung tough, trying to minimize the damage to leading break. Facing major cramping, all of Mike's one-legged drills in January paid off as he needed to pedal only with his right leg in the last 100m.

In the end Mike slotted into 18th in the GC. He says: "20/20 hindsight, I'm OK with the way I raced as I left absolutely nothing in the tank and put myself in position to temporarily get into the winning selection on Stage 3".

Interesting note is that even though Stage 2 got all the hype due to Devil's Kitchen, the consensus is Stage 3 was actually tougher.

The Streak Continues as we ready for Millersburg and Toy Fest RR

CNB-Country Malt Group Cycling extended our win streak to 8 last night in the G-Tour. Dave Hoag took home the honors last night in Wheatland. Dave and Pete were out with Brian as prep for the upcoming Millersberg Stage Race this weekend and the Toy Festival Road Race on the 21st.

MVP Health Care/G2 Team Update

Last Spring, CNB-Country Malt Group Cycling joined a growing list of area supports for a new initiative: Get juniors racing at high levels. For several years CNB-CMG/Interlakes Cycling team members have helped support the work of the GVCC in getting kids on bikes, clothed and racing. This year Legaci Cycling Productions and MVP Health Care took the kids to a new level. Read on to see how the program has developed and what these kids are doing this summer.

Juniors have been racing twice each week with the GVCC. At each of these training races MVP/G2 racers are given assistance with tactics/strategies and general racing skills. Juniors have also, through the efforts of the Mt. Borah/Minvera Design Team Director, been riding every Wednesday for work on specific skills and group riding. Going fast is fun, but being safe and fast is better.

The team also held their first Legací Junior Cycling Camp! This camp was a 3-day total cycling experience for the guys to provide them tools to grow as well as share a cycling experience with their peer group. Seven juniors attend the camp, which was also supported by NYSBRA (USAC association). This added support from NYSBRA, along with suuprt form our team and others, enabled Legaci Cycling Productions to provide this camp to the kids at no cost to them.

A range of topics were covered each day, including, bike fit, training philosophy, strategy/tactics, nutrition, led by a leading sports doctor out of Brockport State. Attendees also were privileged to a special presentation by world champion and world record holder, Gordon Singleton! The guys also got some great riding in around Canandaigua Lake and even got a ride and a sprint or two with Gord!

The following weekend the MVP/G2 Team got to use some of their newly learned skills at the Future Champions Cycling Classic (FCCC) in PA. This is a junior only stage race and the guys did great slotting into 4th in the 15-16 jrs overall, and 3rd and 5th in the 17-18 age group! The whole team raced well and continue to hone their skills.

Chili Recap: 3 G-Tour Wins in 3 Weeks for CNB

CNB wins again! This time is Mick's turn.

Last night the club hit the G-Tour stop in Chili, scene of Tack-Gate a month back. Pete & Mike C rolled away w/a good size group from the gun, thanks in part to a dog came out onto the road & caused a split.

Teams and riders chased for 2 laps with several groupettes forming and jumped up the road to no avail. Laps 4 or 5 saw a few racers get some distance, followed by a couple more, all looking to bridge-up. As a few others shot off the front of the main pack, it was pretty clear our men up the road were getting out numbered. Dave maintained a strong tempo, but the rest of the main group was content to let the break get fairly large. When Owen (ROG) tried to bridge, Mick went with him and pulled the two up to the break.

The break made good headway creating a sizable lead. Heading into the last 2 laps Mick gapped the break. Owen and two others bridged back. Despite some slight disorganization and lack of cooperation, the small break survived to the end with Mick winning the sprint by a bike length or more. The rest of the peleton came in pretty well strung it out.

2011 Fat Tire Festival...A Good Day for CNB

Last weekend Mike Dispenza and Mike Corcimiglia traded skinny tires for fat and landed themselves on the podium at the 2011 Fat Tire Festival Mountain Bike Race.

The duo met and practiced on the race course in the days leading to event. Mike C rode a cyclocross bike with an eye to the the upcoming cross season; Mike D, a mountain bike guy at heart, took took to the course on a newly built Ellsworth Truth. During the practice both guys felt okay, and Corcimiglia elected to stick with the cross bike for the Saturday race.

The day of the event was great. The weather was perfect and the trails were dry, hard, sandy and had a lot of loose stones, tree roots, all the fun stuff. Both team members rode in the Sport Group, which was the largest group of the day.

From the gun, Corcimiglia attacked the field and opened a sizable gap.

He completed the first lap with a gap of about 150 yards. Mike Dispenza was ever attentive near the front of the chase group. Going into the second lap Corcimiglia tried to settle down into a nice rhythm as not to lose any ground on the chase group. About 1/2 way through the second lap, on a decent with a sharp right turn, his bike slid out from under him, sending Mike C down on his left side shoulder,arm, and knee area.

With a jammed up right hand and missing finger nail, the real damage was to his bike. A spoke was broken on the rear wheel and the rim was bent making the rim hit each brake pad on each rotation, but rideable.

Gingerly riding the single track to complete lap #2. Mike entered Lap #3 with the head of the chase group. Lap #3
was a hard fast lap through the trails. Paul Knerr (Peddlers) lit up the third lap and our guys had a tough time trying to match his speed through the corners. Knerr and a few other guys slowly pulled away from Mike C.

After some tough riding through the woods on the final lap Mike C took home 5th overall and placed 1st in the age group of 40-49.

Mike Dispenza, riding a clean race, finished 3rd in the same age group to place two CNB riders on the podium.

2 Hoags Are Better Than 1

Interlakes Cycling announces the arrival of Pete and Dave Hoag to the CNB Cycling Team. Both racers join us from the RUDD Racing Team.

Pete and Dave have proven to be great competitors and two solid guys to race with. Their results thus far speak for themselves.

While new to CNB, the guys are not new to our family or the GVCC. Both have spent several years competing in the GVCC G-Tour and have been around the team since Cheyne was an aspiring junior.

Look for the duo to join the squad this week at Parish Hill and on the weekends teaming with Mike Burri and Mark Dux in the ever toughening Masters category.

After some really great riding with the team this Spring, Dan Schroen is looking to take his love of the bike out West to San Diego.

It has been great to see Dan progress over the past six months; he is well on his way to become a good bike racer. Riding the mountains of Southern Cal wont hurt much either. Here's to wishing Dan well, and we fully expect to see pictures of Dan training this fall and winter with Chris Horner!

LDA Cycle Classic

Mark Dux has been closet training and took forth in the LDA cycle classic. Just missed the podium by a bike length. About 40 riders rolled out for this race. Great course... 36 miles with 2 climbs, a must race next year. It was a lot of fun & for a good cause.

As an added bonus... lunch and music on the deck was provided after the race.

TTT Race in Victor

Race was 4 laps on the Victor course. CNB had a team huddle before the race to come up with a strategy how we'd ride the uphills, downhills, etc and we stuck to it. Madden, Q, Scorch and Burri all rode on the edge the entire time and in the end the team ended up winning the B race by about 45 seconds. The team critiqued the race afterwards and figured out a few things they can do better next time i.e. a bit smoother transition as we pull through. Third and final TTT race is end of July also at Victor.

Full Moon Vist Grand Prix

Mike C. WINS Day 1 of the FMV races.

After a scary crash in warm-ups, which saw CNB's, Dan Schroen, and G2's, Matt B, hit the deck hard, Mike got his head wrapped around racing and did what he does best, sprint. Mike took the prime and the eventual win for the opening day of the 3rd annual Full Moon Vista series of races.

The team thanks all those that responded well to Matt, Dan and our friends on QCP, Nalgene and others that also suffered crashes.

At the end of the three days, Mike slotted into 2nd overall. A few tough moments in the Power Mills Road Race is all that separated Mike from the top step, but that's bike racing.

Good rides were put in by the ever consistent Mike Burri in the Masters division. Mike Madden contested the Powder Mills and Durand races finishing in the front groups in both. Jim Quadrini put in some big efforts late in the Durand race to help propel Mike to the final podium. All in all, a great weekend.

On Saturday, May 7, Dan rode in the 30+ Cat 5 group at the Constellation Brands Bristol Mountain Road Race.

The organization, support and course were all terrific. The first serious hill fractured the group into a lead pack, then about 7 in the middle and chase pack, a common theme recently.

The group in the middle included myself, Tyler Sweeting (Quality Care Pharmacies), Eric Giehl (team Nice Tri) and several others. We all rode together well, exploiting our paceline and echelon training to the maximum.

On the first lap it was so sufficiently warm that I zipped down my jersey and was ready to stow away my arm warmers. Good thing I didn't, as winter showed one last hurrah on the final lap, where super cold, wind-driven rain hit!

I've been struggling a little lately, feeling more tired and sore than I'd like, after feeling good over the winter and early spring. My CNB team mates have offered up some great training advice, including rest days and keeping a ride journal.

Tyler and Eric saved me, with encouragement up the big hill, half a Cliff Bar and some HEED -- Thanks guys!

This is one of the reasons I love racing: The community and support amongst riders. I loved the downhills, full tuck mode leaning out over the bars. Hit 55.9 mph, a new high!

So, what will I take away from this?
   1) Train and fuel-up smarter,
   2) Pacelines are terrific with other good riders,
   3) Try to catch a wheel and latch on to the lead group

Dan Schroen with two Starts at Binghamton

On Saturday, April 23 I finished twice at the Binghamton Circuit Race, 11:20 and 2:00, each 12 laps or ~20 miles for Cat 5. I like the course - about 1.6 miles, no sharp turns, well-paved with a slight uphill to the finish. Both races kept a brisk pace, but neither saw all-out attacks or sustained break-away attempts. My 3rd and 4th USAC races again proved big learning opportunities. Race 1: Started the race a little nervous and tight, which takes up some energy. I stayed in the middle, conservative, not attacking or taking any pulls. That is until the last 1/2 of the last lap. I figured, hey, why not start the sprint at the front, four abreast. A long sustained attack will tire everyone out, right? But I started the sprint way too early, just after the curve at the bottom of the hill. I popped about mid-way up and everyone just rode around. Finshed 12th overall. Race 2: After changing out my wet, cold kit for some dry duds (thanks CNB for the extras, they come in real handy on days like this) and cranking the car heater, I loosened up a bit. This helped immensely as I felt more relaxed the second time around. Pretty much the same deal as before, but I started my sprint later this time. And you guessed it, a little too late! I passed two guys just at the end to take 6th, but was still gaining and had some legs and lungs left. I think I'll get the "when to sprint" thing down, but more importantly, it's time to attack and make things happen (ride to win, instead of "not to lose"!). That's where the real racing happens. Thanks to Jeff L (Park Ave) for reminding me of that. He finished 2nd & 1st, by the way. It's been good racing with Jeff and I look forward to seeing him up in the 4s sometime. Steve Goebel (GVCC) lives out the attack mantra - that dude rides his heart out, jumping off the front, even when no one latches on. If 2 or 3 had grabbed on to work together, I think some breaks would have materialized. But they left him hanging. Another good set of races for our buddy Eric Giehl, too (team Nice Tri). In summary, great race, well organized, cold -n- rainy, definite for next year and time to attack. -- Dan Schroen

Battenkill, Bloomfield & G-Tour

CNB's season kicked into high gear this month with races in Cambridge, NY, Bloomfield, NY and two stops on the season long GVCC G-Tour.

The Tour of Battenkill.

The Tour of Battenkill is touted as the most challenging single-day race in North America. Contested over 64 miles of rolling terrain, Battenkill is renown for steep dirt road climbs and fast gravel road down hills. This year's event saw saw nearly 2,000 Pro-Am competitors. CNB sent Mike Burri, Mark Dux and Brian Gee down I-90 for a go...here is how it played out.

Gee and Burri arrived near Cambridge, NY early afternoon the day before the race. Upon checking in to our hotel, The Old Saratoga Motor Inn, the proprietor informed us we had the room with magical glowing stars on the ceiling--He was correct. What he failed to mention was that the occupants of the other 10 rooms were in town for a dog show, to the tune of 2 dogs per room.

Dux stayed in Saratoga, about 20 minutes away. Rumor has it his hotel had a bit better vibe...

Up early, the race day offered-up 60's and sun. The first warm ride any of us had all season. At the staging area, we hooked up with former team member, Dwight, and several guys from the Nalgene squad. After about an hour of unpacking, fixing numbers, checking the bikes, and warming up, it was time to soft peddle to the start line.

Huh...how do I get on this again?

Something tells me, Gee wont be so "fresh" in 4 hours...

On to the race...simply put HARD! Burri and Dux rode the Master Race, Gee the 4's. After a very PRO-Like 1k neutral roll out the race heads into one of a dozen dirt road sections marked by a single lane covered bridge. Getting 150 racers through that bridge at 25mph is hair-raising to say the least.

From there the course is punishing. Climb, descend, repeat! When one is not dodging potholes, it is flying water bottles dislodged from cages. Burri sat tight in the second group on the road, Dux was hampered by a crash and left to chase solo for nearly 40 miles. Gee hit the wall about 30 miles in after the climb up Jim Bean Road. The descent of Jim Bean is something else. 18% grade straight into a narrow gravel-dirt section through twisty farm roads.

When the dust settled, Burri crossed the line with the best time for CNB, Dux made a solid push to the line and made-up significant ground after the early crash. Gee, well, he finished.

Back Home, unloaded, and ready for NEXT YEAR!

GVCC Spring Classic in Bloomfield

WINDY. Sustained winds of 30mph and gusts to near 50mph makes for hard racing. CNB lined-up with Dan Schroen, Mark Dux, Brian Gee and Mike Burri.

Dan was off early at 8:30. Cold and windy conditions met his group, with a smattering of snow. Raced over rolling hills, on a good day Bloomfield is tough race. With this wind any small gap would mean race over. Dan rode well in the chase group most of the day, slotting well into the top half of his race.

Burri and Dux once again lined-up in the Mater's Race facing off against tough competitors from Canada. As was predicted, a small gap = chasing for the rest of the day. Caught between the leaders and the chase group, the pair worked together for nearly 40 miles, picking off straglers from the small group a leaders. Upon the final ascent, Burri and Dux both found they had slotted into the top 10! Great results on a tough day.

G-Tour Openers: Victor and Wheatland

The first two G-Tour races of the series saw CNB's Mike Corcimiglia cross the line in the first position both weeks. In Victor, Mike won the hard way by bridging to small group, catching them just before an intermediate sprint, taking the sprint the then staying on the gas. Accompanied by two others, Mike dropped his companions on the final climb to solo in for the win.

In Wheatland it was a different story. With no attacks sticking, Jim Quadrini executed a perfect lead-out for Mike to take the sprint. Despite the fact the results were voided due to a crash, which saw CNB's Mike Dispenza hit the deck, it is nice to know we can get a rider across the line first in a variety of ways.

Hornby Hill Kermis lives up to its billing

CNB started off its early season with the inaugural Hornby Hills Kermis, just outside Corning. Not for the faint of heart, this race dished up everything it promised, and then some. CNB was represented by Dan Schroen in his first USAC Cat 5 race. The course got the group’s attention right off the bat, with a steep paved descent and some brake feathering due to early season jitters. A sizable ice patch shortly after the hill flattened out made sure everyone was awake. It wasn’t long until the first dirt section, a gradual uphill, which around 9 a.m. was still fairly set after a freezing night. Mixed sections of asphalt and dirt followed, leading to another steep, paved descent. Immediately after bottoming out, the asphalt ended and the dirt road wasted no time with a cruel, long, steep climb. A split formed fairly early, with three off the front, followed by Tyler Sweeting (Quality Care Pharmacies) and Dan, who worked together well trading pulls and mental uplifts. Great racing! The pair was just out of sight from the lead trio ahead and chase group behind. Then the unthinkable, as Dan and Tyler traded confused looks. You got it: a missed turn took them several miles out of the game. Where a marshal had been placed on lap one, there was none to be found the second time around. Shannon Case (Quality Care) was also missing in action at race end due to a wrong turn. BIG lesson – ALWAYs memorize the course! No excuses! OK back to the racing. Dan and Tyler got back into it and found road conditions had deteriorated substantially, especially by lap three. The dirt sections greeted racers with mud and ruts in the warming temperatures. Tyler rode hard and pulled ahead and taking 8^th in the 30 plus group, while Dan finished 10^th. GVCC was well represented overall, as our friend Eric Giehl (Nice Tri) came in 4^thin the same group. Scott Smith (Team Dorschel) took the podium with a 3^rd in the 19-29 Cat 5. Mt. Borah / Minerva Design dominated the 1/2/3s, with Barney and Housler 1 and 2.
While not the finish Dan anticipated, as CNB team mate Mike Burri puts it, “Racing is hard and things don’t always turn out the way you want. What matters is sticking it out and finishing hard. These things build character.” It was still a terrific race, well organized and a probably great prelude for anyone doing Battenkill. So a thumbs up for next year.

CNB 's Latest Addition: Mike Madden

CNB Cycling is proud to introduce our latest addition to the team, Mike Madden. Mike, seen here at the 2010 edition of the Syracuse Race Weekend, joins CNB after several successful racing seasons.

Mike began his racing career as a collegiate racer at Cortland. He has spent time racing both off road and road races. He comes to CNB most recently from Maxpower Cycling in Syracuse. After two seasons of splitting time between 'cuse and ROC, he is ready for a full G-Tour as he works on finishing up his Cat 3.

Look for Mike to make his CNB debut as the G-Tour opens.

Almost There...We Hope

So it would appear by looking at the calender that we're almost there...race season and clean roads! Funny, Mother Nature wants to tell a different tale. Either way, it is nearly time to say farewell to the winter rats.

It has been a long winter, lots of snow and cold. CNB has put in some significant time over this winter to get ready for this season.

Hopefully, the worst of the road grime an salt sprays are behind us and clear roads are ahead.

So, thanks to the our winter rats, Dreamboat Annie in particular. You kept us connected the roads and rubber-side down!

Dan is entering his second full season of racing. After posting some solid results in his first G-Tour season he is looking to "Cat-Up" early in the season. Dan earned a reputation for the same attacking style of racing CNB brings every week. We look forward to seeing Dan progress.If his winter fitness is any indication, he is in store of a great season. Look for Dan at basically EVERY early season USAC Race, he's signed-up for them all already. Oh, by the way Dan, say goodbye to the wife and kids until October will ya?

Winter Work

As January is set to close, there is a lot to get done in preparation for the new road season. Now is the time team members are getting all their necessary licenses in order, signing-up for club memberships and looking over the NYS race calendar.

January is also the time to take inventory and order parts for component upgrades. This is the week every year we swap out old cables for new, put on new cassettes, chains, tires and bar tape. We also work on getting our nutritional products order for the season. Non-racers would be surprised at how many Hammer gels and Cliff products one rider will consume in 10 months. Luckily our friends at RV&E, Hammer and Cliff take good care of us.

This is also the time to really look at our training programs. For those planning to contest the Giros and early spring races February is a critical month to get in some hard efforts and longer days in the hills. This February a few team members planning to race Battenkill are looking a "team camp" riding the Finger Lakes and getting in some 4 to 5 hour rides with 4,000-5,000 feet of climbing. Hopefully, late February temps and snow fall will accommodate our plans.

For team members not looking to be ready to contest the first month or so of the season, late winter training is focused on moderate intensity rides with some decent climbs. For all of us, though, if the work doesn't get done between November/December and early March it will be an uphill battle to have a solid season.

Cross Recaps: 'Cuse and Halloween Cross

With the FMV series on a two week hiatus leading into the NYC Championships next weekend, the CNB Cross Crew of Burri, Elkins and Gee have been mixing it up in the mud at two great long-standing Central and Western New York cross races in the Syracuse Grand Prix and the Park Avenue Bike Shop Halloween Cross.

Burri was the teams lone representative down I-90 and for his efforts he bagged another top 10 in only his fourth ever cross race. The Grand Prix groupings were set-up a bit different then the FMV series. This saw Burri in a Masters Race. A bit of mud, sand, and a sticky-long run-up offered Burri a few new challenges. After this week off, he is ready to roll in Parma.

Elkins took a week off from racing, but continued to hone his cross skills. His efforts paid off at Halloween Cross with a 3rd place and his first cross podium of 2010. Gee put in one of his better efforts coming inside the top 20 out 43 or so starters. Both got off to a good start and Alex put distance in quickly. Aside from an early fall that separated him from the other two leaders, he raced a flawless race on a muddy and technical course. Well done.

Next week is the close of the FMV series and a chance for CNB to put two in the top ten overall and Alex on the final podium.

FMV Cross Series: Round 2 Cobbs Hill

The course, compared to Ellison, was very fast and technical. There was a small group of the first ten riders up front and the rest were all clogged up in the turns. By the end of the race Elkins and the other leaders were lapping quite a few people, making the game of catch-up very interesting. All in all, a tough course with lots of turns, but a ton of fun, with some of the tougher physical parts being the run-up then the immediate climb up to the reservoir.

On the decent coming down from the reservoir some guy crashed in front of Burri sending him right over the downed rider, luckily only 38 PSI in those tires. Burri did manage to stay upright. Overall great weather and the same pro-set up for the finish line as Ellison makes racing even cooler.

With three weeks to go before the series finals in Parma at the NYS Championships the CNB crew has two high in the overall with Alex leading the charge in 6th and Burri sitting in a dangerous 11th.

With the Syracuse Gand Prix next weekend and Park Ave Halloween Cross in two weeks, we’ve got some time to tighten things up. Alex is especially looking to come out in the top 5 at least for the overall. He is poised to jump on every opportunity. That means not letting others pass, not making stupid mistakes and pushing hard. Go BIG or go home, right Elk?

CNB's junior racer came up big this week in the G-Tour Championship.

On Tuesday he posted a good time on the challenging Parrish Hill TT. Alex barely snuck in there for 3rd by .6 seconds--by the way Alex won the first ever GVCC Omnium TT Wheelie contest while crossing the line… an effort that no doubt earned him the top 3 position and some cold hard cash.

Alex had a great points race in the 5's. Gavin (G2) went from the gun and soloed the first seven or eight laps. Alex drove the pace alone at the front to keep Gavin in sight, spitting guys out the back the entire time.

With about 7 or 8 guys left in his group, he did the smart move and sat in the middle for a lap and then jumped across the gap solo just as Gavin was fading. Alex took to the front and gave Gavin a rest for a lap. The two then worked a great pace line for another 5 or 6 and finished one-two at the line, with Alex taking the final sprint.

Alex paced 3rd overall for the B5's behind Gavin and Jeff (Park Ave Multi-Sport).

Spending Time in the Woods with The Elk

Over the weekend, CNB's Junior/G2 racer spent some quality time off road, working on a new trails system in West Bay Park.

In addition to his time with us on the road, Elkins is an active member of GROC. Over the past two years he has advocated at local and county parks meetings, spoken at county legislative meetings and several other inveted speaking engagements working to open park land to off-road cycists. This weekend marked a few big milestone for the Tryon GROC Corps as the group have performed the first ever Monroe County sponsored/approved trail building for mountain bikes/multi-use spaces in a Monroe County Park.

The group started off in over grown West Bay Park and cleared and built about a mile or so of some AMAZING smooth single track. It is very flowy and it is really cool. This is a momentous step. GROC are the leaders of the charge, which is really cool, the county is listening to what off-road cyclists want to do and letting US THE BIKERS DO IT. We had an empty skip at the beginning of the work day and by the end it was full.

Final TTT of 2010

Last night marked the final TTT of the 2010 G-Tour. By all accounts this has been a great addition to the club races. The competition has been very solid with Monroe/SBR, TLV and the Nalgene hit squad all posting fast times this year.

The final TTT was run on the Victor course in stiff winds and chilly temps. Racing in crazy wind and finishing in the dark, Mike Burri and JQ finished 3rd in B4 and 6th overall. The wind was just relentless, seemed to get more windy as the laps went on, but maybe tired legs. Mike was the CNB strongman with his TT bike and pulled hard to keep the average speed up. Nelgene had 4 guys on TT bikes and nipped us by 43 seconds. Our time = 1:01:27

Mike and JQ had and awesome 3rd lap, the best rhythm and rotation the entire lap, all 4 laps were within 20 seconds. (15:10---15:28); pretty consistent considering the pair have never worked like that together for so long.

The write up on the GVCC website has us as tie for second with SBR. Mike and JQ are confident that with Jim on his TT rig, CNB would’ve won the B’s and taken 4th overall. JQ pushed to the limit. Great job! He'll be definitely will be putting a front deraileur on the TT bike this winter.

Alex, racing on a composite G2 team, placed 9th out of 12 teams and beat 3 of the B4 teams!!! That’s awesome for the young guns and great for the future of our club.

Big THANKS to the GVCC leaders for adding the TTT to the program.

G-Tour: Rush Recap

Thursday saw yet another hot day on the ever tough Rush course. On lap one JQ (CNB) went up the road with Knerr(Peddlers), Coyle (Nalgene), Corcimiglia(Mac 5) & Chris (TLV). There were several attempts out of the group to bridge but CNB's Shawn, Burri and Mick kept things in check and no one got across.

Mike C popped on the climb at the end of lap 2 and rejoined the main group. Monroe, missing from the break, saw Randall take to the chase with several of the independents racers, but CNB broke up the chase well enough to keep JQ in the sweet spot for the remainder of the race. JQ worked the break well snagging prime points on each lap.

On lap 4 Ronan (UR/TLV) bridged up to the break solo making the break 5 strong. It looked as if the break would survive with 2 to go as no one seemed to have gas to chase or didn't want to! Half way through lap 5, a group of 3 containing Dave Hoag (RUDD), Phil (Monroe) and Jeff (yellow jersey) rolled away from the main pack. Mike C attempted to bridge with Mick (CNB) in toe followed by Eric H (Nalgene). Mike dropped from the chasers and Mick then worked to drop Eric in pursuit of the chase group.

Joining the Hoag group, Mick and the remaining 3 chasers worked a paceline beautifully until the final ascent where Mick found himself starting to pick up parts of the break that splintered on the climb.

Mick lead the chase over the top and bridged the group to JQ, Coyle & Knerr at the bottom of the hill with less than 1 to go. CNB sent Mick on the attack on the riser to see if anyone still had legs. Knerr countered but everyone stuck together going over the top. We stayed together nine deep heading to the line. Ronan led out the charge up the hill and didn't lose a step. Dave, Jeff and Mick followed and had about a 10 second gap at the line

For his efforts in the main break from the bell lap, JQ crossed the line 6th. Mick settled into 4th.

The last few weeks have seen CNB show some real class on the courses, let's hope to see another 1st before the end of the month.

CNB looked like a well oiled team last night!

Brian was great getting in small breaks - mostly it seamed with strongmen Knerr (Peddlers) and Ronan (UR/TLV). Perfect positioning for the team, and we were able to force other guys to chase.

Burri forced a real chase by Knerr (Peddlers) for almost an entire lap. Dux brought Eric (Nalgene) to the front – with Bob (Pedalers). Dux was able to hold-off the chasing group to snag the first Prime, Hardman-style! off the front solo for a near full lap. On the 2nd of the Prime laps, CNB set Mick-up well to get into the points.

Dux's 2nd dig stretched the field a bit and between him and Burri, guys started getting tired. By the time the group caught Burri, Mick took off leaving only Corcimiglia (Mac 5) and Bob to chase.

JQ made the finishing move and had Eric and Bob not killed themselves on the finishing stretch, Q would have stayed away for the win. All he needed was 100 more yards to take the prize.

CNB had a blast working together and came within a few meters of another win out of an attack, not a field sprint! A few of the B4 gang commented how we were up the road, attacking left & right all night - it's a good feeling to know your team may not win every week, but we make it a real race!

Corcimiglia (Mac 5) showed his strength again by killing himself to bring Burri back at the end, but yet still had the legs to sprint for 1st or 2nd. Hopefully with some rest this week the gang will feel good next week in Rush where it is survival of the fittest!

RV&E's Farmall Hill Moutain Bike Challenge Turns 10

With the close of the 2010 races, FHMBC has a birthday. But first, a little bit of history from "The Hill."

Farmall Hill Mountain Bike Challenge (FHMBC) began in the summer of 2000 as a three race summer series in August. It is a 2.0-mile loop throughout the hills of Perinton, NY. The course is known as the "no recovery" race. The course consists of mostly single track with quick climbs and fast descents with very little recovery in between, making for an awesome race.

The August summer series has continued with great success since 2000. In 2003 a new May spring series was added. The August series was skipped that year, since Doug Sharp (the race director) was getting married in August. In 2004 both the spring and summer race series successfully returned.

This year the Farmall Hill Mountain Bike Challenge celebrated "10" years of mountain bike racing on the hill.

The races draw between 50-70 mountain bike riders on any given Tuesday night. This is a great event for young riders as well, since kids as young as 10 have been racing at the competition. Spectators are welcome to come and view the competition, as the course is visible for fans in many areas. Farmall Hill is privately owned and racing is only permitted on race days, making participation a must if you want to ride the course.

News Flash: Mike D. Back in the Saddle Again

Good news for Mike D. and the CNB crew. The past few weeks have seen Mike get back on the bike. He has been able to train for the past few weeks, making the most of a new CNB training hub out of Victor.

Mike was crashed out of a race in Chili several months ago and suffered a broken collarbone. He has been on the mend for the past 10 weeks. Mike's injury came at a time that saw him enjoying his best form in two seasons. He was a stalwart of the CNB TTT crew and a regular in G-Tour breakaways this Spring.

With 'cross season kicking into gear next month and a host of very good local and regional events on the 2010 calendar, here is to hoping Mikey lines-up in the mud... his favorite place to be.

Elk Rides the British Isles and Reviews a New All Mountain Bike

While most of CNB has been chasing state and national podiums and G-Tour wins, our Junior rider, Alex, has been rippin' it up in the Welsh Upland. Here's his recap.

To start things off lets set scene. It is a cool yet humid Welsh Upland morning. A fine mist is moving through the Welsh farmland, and a heavy fog is rising through the pines. A heavy rain had passed through early, and in all of the British Isles this is the norm, so we ride and we ride hard. That being said mud is accepted, and riding centres are common in Wales, England and Scotland, which are built pretty solidly, though lacking our rooty technicality, to accommodate for millions.

Llandegla riding technically is not amusing compared to our riding, but it is an all mountain heaven. Huge berms ten foot high ladders, slalom runs yet vertical wall ascents which are prove to be interesting with hard packed slick rock under tire.

This bike is amazing. It is visually very pleasing, especially the one I rode. And though it looks like a tank it is not--coming in around 30lbs. Being a single pivot one would think this bike is really inefficient; however, it is an uphill and downhill machine. This is all because of the RP23, if the bike did not have platform shock this would be an inefficient piece of sloop. The one thing I did not like was the ProPedal switch. Most would yell at me and say it so reachable and you have only a couple settings to choose from. However, I personally like the adjustable of the 2009 and past DHX. Since this shock only really had on and off, I could not find the happy medium between plush and stiffness. The bike is pretty similar to my Uber, however it is more centered than my own bike. I did feel on drops that I had to lean back a little bit more to not nose dive, but in the berms on the slalom course I found it more easy to really rail and tilt.

On the uphills, I found that I did not have to ride the rivet as much, however it seemed to wallow more in little ditches and it felt a little more hard to get over the crest. This is mostly because this is a bike that can be downhilled amazing well, and get you easily back to the run but then do shuttle runs the next day. I find that this bike would suit me well if I were to buy one.

It is not race machine, but it is a true burly all mountain bike, that is very unique. It can take anything you throw at it, you just have to ride the the bike with a good pedal form. I would think this bike would do well in technical situations, and would thrive in our area. I did give a little bit of a hammer, and it does well, but it wants to be loved not killed. The five is made to have fun and to go fast, and will always serve it up.

Fishers Crit--Dux on Form while Mick nabs 2nd

After missing out on the TTT, CNB was looking to make some noise in Fishers last night. In all it was a very fun night of racing!

Dux found great form as he spent a great deal of time off the front. On lap 1, Dux rolled away and sent the pace sky high immediately opening a 10 second gap. He stayed away 4 or 5 laps.

Back in the fold, Dux took a few laps to recover while several solo and pair attacks didn't stick. CNB riders Mick and JQ threw down 2 or 3 attacks looking to snap the elastic. Quadrini eventually broke free going solo for 2+ laps.

The Prime lap saw Knerr (Peddlers) chase down a solo JQ and in the process give Mick a great lead out to take an easy prime against Corcimiglia (Mac5). The trio of Knerr, Corcimiglia and Snyder kept a 15-20 sec gap off the prime sprint for two or so laps until Mick popped and came back to the group.

Knerr and Corcimiglia spent around 8-10 laps off the front. With about 10 laps to go, Dux went off the front eventually joined by Owen (UR) and the pair were rolling. The small group made it to about 200m to go - nice effort Dux. Mick threw down a strong sprint. In the end he was edged out by 1/2 wheel to Corcimiglia (Mac5).

CNB's consolation prize for 2nd? We made Mike go hard enough to puke after he crossed the finish! (In all seriousness it was a good ride for Mike C)

Wheatland Report

The G-Tour made a trip to Wheatland last night for 4 laps of mid season action. Riders were greeted by cooler temperatures than the past two G-Tour stops, a welcome change from 90’s and humid air of the past two races.

On Lap 1 Bob (Peddlers) and Owen (UR) turned the first peddles in anger and stayed away for the better part of two laps. Owen pulled the plug and Bob held off the chasing group through the second of the two finishing rollers. CNB had some help brining the group back into Lap 2.

The final lap saw a few attempts to get off the front by Deats (TLV), Gee (CNB) and Burri (CNB) meet with little success. JQ was able to break the elastic for a half lap after the group reeled in Coyle (Nalgene). JQ stayed off the front until the last roller on the backside of the course. A counter from Gee saw him trying to get on terms with his machine as he distanced the group heading into the final turn.

Riding like the halcyon days of Eddy Merckx (not really) Gee was all over his machine until he missed the final turn (where was the Marshall?!?!?) With that, Burri, Dux and JQ set the train, but the crafty sprinters kept our boys out the top spots.

NYS TT Championship—Another CNB Podium

Three years running CNB’s Mike Burri. has landed himself a podium spot at the NYS Time Trial Championships. Mike took the Bronze this year against arguably the strongest TT field in recent years. Great work Mike!

Other noted GVCC podiums came from Rick Randall (Monroe Fire/SBR) and Brent Blazey (Mac 5). All of the GVCC racers ended on a podium. The State of Cycling is Strong in ROC!

Rush Recap--Liggett Style

Last night the B4 group faced the always daunting Rush course. Adding in near 95 degree temperatures and 8 accents of the Rush wall, it was clear this was going to be a hard-man’s race. CNB officially rolled out the new team kits last night, after a sneak peak at the Webster TT. Donning the Red, White and Gold, were Dux, JQ, Gee and Burri. Check back soon for photos of the new kits.

The pace on the first two accents was reasonable with few racers looking to make the race that early in the heat. By lap 3 Paul Knerr (Peddlers) went on the attack and it was game on. JQ and Burri worked the group to reel him in like fishermen with a trout on the line. By the third accent for Gee it was “Bridge to engine room-more power… There was no more” and he was spat out of the back. Dux was soon to follow and the two were glass peddling for three laps, until Dux (literally) tore off a crank arm and called it a night.

Meanwhile, back in the race, Knerr was holding strong off the front. JQ pulled the plug after some very good efforts. Burri went on the attack looking to take time back from Paul and distance the group.

Heading into the penultimate lap, with Burri back in pack, Randell (Monroe Extinguisher) took to the chase; he’d been thrown a bone... and it was a meaty bone.

Knerr held strong maintaining a 30 sec advantage with 4 miles to race.

The final accent saw Randell catch and pass Knerr. Not to be denied, Knerr turned himself inside-out, pipping Randell at the line for the win.

That's what you get when you suffer - you get results.

Riga Report

The G-Tour stopped in Riga last night to challenge the long, hot, and windy course for four laps ending in a tough uphill sprint. CNB's line-up for Riga was JQ, Dux, Burri, and Alex.

The first lap was relatively non-aggressive, save a few half-hearted attempts by riders hoping to get off the front. Lap 2, however, saw CNB’s, Burri, bridge up to Mike Deats (TLV). When Rick Randall (SBR) bridged up a few meters later, the trio was off.

Deats dropped back before the prime line. Nearing the top of hill, Randall also pulled the plug falling back to the group of chasers. Burri held strong pushing a massive gear through the prime. Burri snagged 2pts the hard way by going solo against a strong field for nearly ¾ of a lap. JQ and Dux did a good job of controlling the pace helping make this move possible. There where several instances when a break was starting to form after Burri's solo lap where CNB lacked representation, so Dux and JQ drilled the front to pull it back and all was correct.

Lap 3, another prime lap, saw riders attacking in earnest. Not to be left out, the CNB boys were on top of any promising breakaways. In the fray, Burri was able to lock-up another prime.

With one lap to go, 7 guys got off the front. With all of the teams represented, except CNB, the boys had some work to do. Burri bridged, taking two with him, making the break 10 fold with all GVCC teams present and accounted for.

The final uphill sprint was won by Mac 5 strongman, Mike C. Our man Burri lumbered in for 7th after a yeoman’s effort. Good work was done by Dux and JQ allowing Burri to ride aggressively throughout the race.

Dechau TT: Burri on the Podium

The 2010 Dechau TT saw a great turnout with about 70 riders lining-up to race in Rushville. The time trial course covers a rolling ~35 km. from Middlesex Valley, Rushville to Italy. The day was marked by strong headwinds on the way out.

CNB’s Mike Burri rode to an impressive sub 50 minute 2nd place. While fellow GVCCer’s, stacked the top fives in all categories. Top honors, and a new course record, went to Mike Mathis, a former team member now racing Pro NRC events.

Up next for Mike Burri are the NYS TT Championships, where Mike looks to improve upon his past two silver medals. Looming large is the Master’s National Championships later this season in Kentucky.

Parish Hill Race Report

Last night’s yearly jaunt was highlighted by the general air of confusion on how many laps we were doing, how many laps’ riders had actually done, and what constituted a lap. Most of the confusion was probably because of oxygen debt.

As it is every year, Parish Hill was really hard. CNB sent JQ, Ozzy and Gee into the 4’s and Alex into the G2/5 race. JQ flew the flag well last night hanging tough lap after lap with the front six. Gee raced the race within the race (mostly alone) for 7 seven laps of 9. Something about not racing the bike all of May really shows itself in June.

Alex made the most impressive finish for the crew with a final up hill sprint to the line dropping a few hangers-on.

For Jim’s efforts, he bagged a sixth place. Alex was in the top 7 or so for the 5’s. Great riding by Monroe Fire and Twin Line, both teams dominated the lead group in the 4’s.

Busy Week of Racing

This week is shaping up to be a potentially busy week for the CNB crew and area racers. The GVCC is hosting three events over the next five days.

As part of the 2010 G-Tour, Tuesday’s affair is on the Fisher’s Crit course, while Thursday sees the group attack the famed Parish Hill Course.

The capstone of the week is the Jon Dechau Memorial TT in Rushville, New York on Saturday.

For the truly motivated, Sunday marks the inaugural LDA Cycling Classic Road Race in Naples.

Tough Day at the Races--Chili Report

Not much to say for Chili other than a tough day for CNB. We lined-up with a strong team against a full field. Things went well for a time. Mike Burri got off into a few promising escapes, but ultimately none stuck. Heading into the second to last turn, Dux moved to the front and really strung out the group.

With CNB's top sprinter, Mick Snyder, on the shelf this week, we were looking to set-up JQ or Ozzy for the uphill dash to the line. As Mike D. worked to pull JQ into position, just after the final turn, he was crashed out of the race.

Final verdict for Mike: broken collarbone and some nasty road rash. Mike's recovery time will be a huge loss to CNB. He was in good form and a strong member to our TTT squad. Hopefully he's back in good shape for the 'Cross season--his favorite.

Thanks to all who stopped and waited for the medics to arrive.

On a separate note, it is great to look through the pack and see so many teams represented with multiple riders. The addition of a few new teams to the club has been great for racing in both the G-Tour and Roc.

Victory in Victor: Mick bags CNB's first G-Tour Win

The G-Tour stopped in Victor last night with a full CNB squad ready to roll. Mike Burri lined-up or a few laps of training heading into this weekend’s race schedule. Brian made his return after a month of missed races. JQ, Ozzy, Mick, Bob, Dux and Mike D. rounded out the team.

JQ made good on pre-race promises and attacked out of the second turn with Bob (Peddlers) Sam (Park Ave) Jeff, and another racer in tow. After two solid laps, the group had about 1:00 over the field. Bob and Sam came back to the group after the prime lap. JQ soldiered on holding the gap at around 1:00.

With no representation in the break from Mac 5 or Peddlers, Mike C. and Paul Knerr took to the chase in earnest. With JQ still off the front, we covered moves and marked Paul and Mike. Mike D. did some great work patrolling the front all night.

Heading into the final turn the writing was on the wall for JQ after what amounted to a race long break. The rest of the CNB crew began to move to front. Gee dragged Mick into position heading into the climb and Dux, Mike D, and Shawn ramped-up the pace for the final climb, shedding several riders.

Dux took the reins and drove hard to the line stringing out the group. Mick came around for a textbook sprint win, CNB’s first of the 2010 tour. Mike D. and Dux filled in spots in the top 5 and 10 respectively.

TTT Time Trials and Tribulations.....

Race Recap

Lining up for CNB’s first TTT were Mike Burri, Mike Dispenza, Mark Dux, and Mick Snyder. By all accounts the inaugural G-Tour TTT was fun and brought a new learning curve to CNB’s veteran crew of racers.

Despite a few miscues, including a dropped chain early in the first lap that cost 35-40 seconds, the team worked well together and posted a decent split time. Heading into lap two Burri and Snyder took the reins to drive the CNB train home into a headwind.

Nice job guys. This is a tough event, not an easy one to participate in. Way to represent.

Lessons Learned

#1 Racers need a longer/smarter warm up time for this type of exercise. They say the shorter the event, the longer and more intense the warm-up. I would call this a fairly long event - it's pretty hard to get in a good controlled warm-up just rolling around on the course. Probably a stationary trainer and a moderate spin with some harder efforts for around 20-25 minutes in the shade would do it.

#2 TT helmets can be like a furnace when riding in the sun. Trading off better ventilation against aero efficiency may not be a bad idea, if you are having issues with the heat (it was pretty hot and humid yesterday), since you're not putting yourself directly into the wind except for your turns at the front.

#3 Focus on better prep the 2 days before regarding hydration and the timing of food intake. It's tough to carry water on a tt bike - best to top off before starting and carry what you reasonably can on the bike.

#4 Measuring efforts to having stronger riders for lap 2. Next time we need to keep 3 racers fresh coming into lap 2 so we have more horsepower for lap 2.

#5 Next time, I would suggest someone bring a popup shelter, an ice cooler with cold drinks, and everyone warmup together on the trainers (just like the pros!)

Otherwise it's just a hard violet assault on the body to do it right and there is NO getting around that...just need to get use to it.

BTW Hats off the MDC who smoked the course at 39:10, or something like that.

The Elk rides Ellicotville

Ellicotville was amazing yesterday. I rode with some Tryon Racers and some of my other patroller buddies. We rode 30 total trail miles on: Big Merlin, FLT, Porcupine, Rock City, Bent Rim, parts of the FLT and the Rim Trail.

It was AMAZING. Everything was very techy that made the ride a full body workout that required full concentration. There were rocks the size of baseballs to two foot ledge drops. The first climb of the route was a good length trail of switch backs and this was the final downhill as well. The switch backs made it very flowy and fast, and in between these turns there were hips that you could gap over and then roots sections that could be cleared with one hop of the bike.

Overall we all did very well, and I was happy to see that I good stay in semi-one piece with these guys. I rode smart, paced myself, rode cautiously but strong through the all rock gardens, and I was fast and aggressive on both uphills and downhills.

Home Brewing can be fun and rewarding. Here are some common questions and answers, both for those who are thinking about starting, and those already in the act.

Before you become a brewer: These questions are most often asked by people thinking about getting into homebrewing.

Q: Is homebrewing hard to do?
A: No. Basically if you can boil water, you can brew beer.
Q: How much time does it take and how long will it be before I can drink the beer?
A: You'll spend about 6 hours on brew day brewing and cleaning up (this will get shorter as you gain experience). Then the beer will ferment for about 2 weeks. Then you'll spend another 2-3 hours bottling the beer and it will be another week or two before it's ready to drink. The total elapsed time will be about 3-4 weeks.

Q: Does it take up a lot of space?
A: Not really. The fermenter takes up about a 2 foot by 2 foot square and is about 2.5 feet high. You'll also need space to store the bottles. The amount is up to you, but 2 cases would be the minimum. Only a few need to be in the fridge at once.
Q: My house gets pretty warm. Is that a problem?
A: The ideal temperature for making ales is around 65oF. But you can obtain acceptable results with temperatures as high as 78oF. More important is that the temperature be stable, staying within 3-5 degrees over the course of the day. Usually a basement or an inside closet (one with no walls common with house's exterior) is not only the coolest place in the house, but also the most stable.

Q: How much beer do I make each time, and how much will each batch cost me?
A: The typical amount of homebrew you will make each time is 5 gallons or around 2 cases. The cost depends on the type of beer you want to make, but generally runs between $19 and $25. That translates to $.36 to $.48 per bottle.
Q: How long will it be before I make good beer?
A: If you follow our advice and instructions, most brewers make very good beer their first time.
Q: How much do I need to spend on equipment?
A: HopTech sells a complete equipment kit for $79.95. It includes everything you need except a boiling kettle, bottles and ingredients for your first beer. If you have a 5 gallon (or larger) stainless steel or enamel kettle/canning pot (but not aluminum) then that will work fine. Most people don't, however. HopTech sells a 5 gallon stainless steel pot for $36.95. You can save beer bottles (they must not be twist-off types) or you can buy them from us (if you live nearby). You'll need around two cases (48 twelve ounce bottles) for your first batch.
Q: What's included in the kit?
A: You get a fermenting bucket with lid, a bottling/settling bucket with lid, spigots and our unique SpigotGuard (that eliminates siphoning) for each bucket, airlock, stopper, 4' of racking hose, a deluxe bottle filler, a deluxe wing bottle capper, a bottle cleaning brush, a high quality hydrometer, a hydrometer test jar, a dial thermometer, a brewing spoon, a nylon grain steeping bag, 60 bottle caps, a bottle of sanitizer, the book Brewing Quality Beers and our own instructions that tell you exactly how to use our brewing equipment. Q: I've seen other kits advertised for less money. What makes your kit better?
A: The reason those kits are cheaper is because they leave out things and/or use cheaper components. They do make beer, but we don't want your first brewing experience to be frustrating, so we give you everything you need to make sure you make good beer the first time and do it with a minimum of hassle. For example, our kit never requires that you siphon the beer, a constant source of frustration even for experienced brewers. And we give you high quality components that won't need to be replaced after a batch or two.
Q: I want to save my own bottles. What's the total amount I can expect to spend to get started?
A: Experience has shown that the typical customer that buys our kit, a brew pot and ingredients ends up spending between $130 and $140 including tax (if applicable).
Q: I've heard that homebrewed beer has a higher alcohol content and is more bitter than "store bought" beer. Is this true?
A: You can control the amount of alcohol and bitterness in your beer, making as little or as much bitterness and/or alcohol as you desire.
Q: What kind of beers can I brew?
A: While it is possible to brew almost any style of beer at home, ales are the easiest. Lagers are not really harder to brew, but since they take an extended period of cold, temperature-controlled fermentation, the investment in equipment and space is much higher. That is not to say that you can't make a light tasting beer, you'd just make it as an ale rather than a true lager. Only an experienced beer expert could tell the difference.
Q: Five gallons sounds like a lot. Can I brew a smaller batch?
A: Yes, but since the amount of work is the same, most brewers end up staying with five gallon batches or even moving to larger size batches.

Brewing-related Questions:

This section contains those questions we most often get asked about problems that occur during the actual brewing process.

Q: My beer only took one day to ferment. Is it stuck?
A: If the weather is warm and with some strains of yeast (usually dry yeasts) it is not uncommon for beers to ferment very quickly. Take a hydrometer reading and record the value (don't forget to apply any temperature correction). Wait three days and take another. Compare the two readings. If they are the same (and in the proper range), your beer is done fermenting. You could bottle the beer now (we know you're anxious!) but we advise you to wait a full two weeks to allow the beer to settle and clear. If your hydrometer reading is still high, then your fermentation may be stuck. Some dry yeasts (not the ones we sell, however) are known to do this, but the most common cause is insufficient aeration of the wort when you pitched the yeast. It can also be caused by a highly flocculent yeast strain that dropped to the bottom before it was done. In either case, you can usually get your beer going again by "rousing" the yeast. Do this by stirring up the yeast sediment with your sterilized brewing spoon.

Q: My airlock bubbled for a few days and then quit. What's wrong?
A: See the answer above. It may also be that your fermenter lid is not on tight and the CO2 has found another way to get out of the fermenter rather than through the airlock.

Q: I pitched the yeast and nothing ever happened. Was it dead?
A: Not usually. Sometimes a fermentation can happen very quickly (a matter of hours) and you'll have missed it during the night. (This can happen with some dry yeast and especially if you didn't cool the wort enough before pitching.) Look for tell-tale signs that you had some activity - usually there will be a ring of scum an inch or so above the level of the liquid. You can also take a hydrometer reading. Also see the above two answers.

Q: I checked and there's no sign of activity after a few days. What should I do?
A: It's possible your yeast was dead. This happens a lot with yeasts packaged with imported "canned kits" or you could have left too much sanitizer in the fermenter. Go ahead and pitch another 10-14 grams of properly rehydrated dry yeast. Be sure to aerate the wort again. A lot of brewers like to keep some dry yeast on hand for such an emergency.

Q: I'm using liquid yeast. I popped the packet and it swelled up OK, but nothing is happening. Is the yeast dead?
A: Not if the packet swelled up. That's a sign of healthy yeast. Your beer will eventually start fermenting. We recommend you make a starter with the liquid yeast to prevent this problem.

Q: I popped my liquid yeast packet a few days ahead of when I wanted to brew and it swelled up right away, but I'm not ready to brew yet. What should I do?
A: Put the packet in the refrigerator. It will be fine in the swelled up state for several weeks if kept refrigerated. You could also take this opportunity to make a starter if you have the equipment.

Q: I had my liquid yeast packet (or starter) all set to go, but something can up and I can't brew when I had originally planned to. What can I do?
A: See the answer above. It also applies to starters.

Q: My beer has been in the bottle two weeks now and it's still flat. What's wrong?
A: Most likely the beer has been kept too cold since bottling. The beer should be held for a week or so at a temperature of at least 55oF. Move it to a warmer place. Another problem may be that you didn't use enough (or any) priming sugar. The usual amount is 1/2 to 3/4 cup in 5 gallons. Your caps may also be leaking. This happens when you use "twist-off" bottles or when you boil the caps to sterilize them. Boiling can destroy the integrity of the cap's seal. It is usually not necessary to sanitize caps, but if you want to, do it with a quick rinse in iodophor (properly diluted). If you use bleach, a chlorine odor can be retained by the cap liner, and this will affect your beer's flavor. It may also be that you left too much sanitizer in the bottles. Next time either rinse or let the bottles air dry upside down before bottling.

Q: I have a layer of sediment in the bottom of my bottles. Is this normal?
A: Yes. There should be a thin layer of sediment at the bottom. This is the yeast that grew which caused the beer to be carbonated. If you have a thick layer, then you probably didn't let the beer clear long enough before bottling or you picked up a lot of sediment from the fermenter when you transferred to the bottling bucket.

Q: My beer is over-carbonated. What happened?
A: Several things could have happened. You could have used too much priming sugar. You might not have waited long enough and the beer was still fermenting when you bottled. And you could have an infection that is fermenting things that beer yeast doesn't. Or it could any combination of three.

Q: My beer doesn't taste right. What's wrong?
A: There isn't enough space here to detail all that could happen to cause off flavors. Most brewing books have a trouble-shooting section - check your symptoms for the likely cause. Most likely you have an infection. Check around the bottle neck. If there's a ring, that's usually a sign of infection (but can also be caused by priming with DME). Review your sanitation procedures. It may be an isolated case (we all make a batch of "dumper-brau" once in a while) but if the problem persists you probably have a hidden place in some of your equipment you're not getting clean and sanitized.

Masters Race Report

40 guys lined up for the Masters 45+ race. Temps and wind were about the same (45 degrees and 45 mph gusts with sustained wind of 25 -30 mph).

Heading down Rte 64 towards the ski resort was brutal. First time up Egypt did not turn out well for me. Gap of about 50 yards at the top doomed me. I was left chasing with approximately 8-10 guys. Note to self, again, need to be top 2 or 3 heading into the long hills. We had the lead group in our sights about 200 meters ahead but we never did catch back on. Problem is half the guys have no desire to chase nor do they know how to run an efficient paceline.

As the race wore on my group of 10 whittled down to 5. This one guy from Toronto was the biggest wheelsucker I've ever seen, didn't do a lick of work for 34 miles. Top of Egypt heading to the finish, all of a sudden he's got juice to spare.

Now it's down to 3 of us, Toronto Wheelsucker, Good dude for Canadian Z Team and me. Me and the Z guy decide to sit on Wheelsucker all the way until about 100 meters from finish then we smoke him. Big friggin deal. End up 20 out of 40.

Moral victory - didn't let Toronto Wheelsucker beat me. Overall, not happy with the result but oh well, it was fun.

Other notables, Rob Shuler took second in the Cat 4, Chris Mooney took sixth. Dan Barney took second in Cat 3 and Brendan took ninth in a stacked Pro/1/2 field.

Bike Racing is Hard

So last night in Chili I was reminded, yet again, that bike racing is hard. After two full practice laps with the team assessing the road conditions, talking race strategies, and most importantly, paying attention to the wind, we set out to get the elusive first CNB win of 2010.

We had a strong team with Burri, Ozzy, Mick, Dux, JQ and me. Although, my performance looked more like my first ever race than it did my last two. I did everything wrong. Spent way to too much time at the back, found myself closing countless stupid little gaps in the group. But the biggest blunder, not staying out the wind. What a rookie mistake. All night I was on the wrong side of the group. For whatever reason I was just not paying attention. In the end, I got what I earned, a solo ride back to the car, but not after getting sucked up by the winning B5 break.

The only solace I can take from last night; I did help a B5 rider get back to the break heading into the final climb after he had some ill timed mechanical issues. Sure, I probably should have let him dangle there and drop off. But he was killing himself to get back on without being about to get his bike into a gear. So I put in an effort and gave a newbie a hand.

Lessons learned:
1. Pay attention
2. Get more fitness
4. Bike racing is hard.

All in all CNB had a bad night. We missed the key break of the night, chased too much and never got into position for a sprint. We had our two strongest riders doing too much work dragging the group.

Furman Challenge Rides

Furman Challenge ride starts this Wednesday at 6 pm!!!

One big change this year is the location of the start will be Webster Park (corner of Holt Road and Lake Road). Use the lot closest to the bathrooms on the Northwest corner. The new start will allow the Furman Challenge to grow and become a public ride similar to the Latte Ride on Saturday mornings.

With the new start at Webster Park, we will head east on Lake Road to Phillips Road. Head south on Phillips Road and the rest is the same.

There will still be crowned a "king of the HILL" and with that goes all the glory only fitting of a KING.

This is a hammer type ride BUT with safety rules:

1.Riders warm up and warm down.

2. Riders cross many busy roads and obey the traffic laws.

3. Riders regroup if a red light breaks us apart.

4. NEVER use more than 2 lanes. Especially when climbing the famous Furman Hill!

5. THINK SAFETY!

Mendon Race Recaps

Lining up for CNB was Dux, Wells, Gee, JQ, Oz, Burri.

From the opening bell, OZ takes off and attacks. 3 or 4 people follow and JQ bridges up. On the back stretch, Burri bridges up along with a few others but we can’t get it organized fast enough and the pack joins us. There were a lot of frisky attacks the balance of the first lap.

Beginning of lap 2 Rick Randall, a Twin Velo guy and third guy get off the front for almost an entire lap but get reeled back just before the prime.

Lap 3 was at a decent pace with some more attacks, many by CNB, but none were able to stay away. Throughout most of the race, when we did not have a guy up the road, all CNB riders did a good job of working to close gaps and reel anything in. Gee made a big effort to bridge to a promising break, after chasing with Shana (FMV) for nearly 2km the gap proved to be too much for the pair. Eventually, this move brought the pack to the break leading into the final lap.

Lap 4 was another prime lap and again no one was able to stay away. Beginning of final lap saw Gee attack and hold it to the first hill before turn 2. Burri attacked after that and got gobbled up after turn 3. Ozzie countered and pushed the pace for next half mile, then Burri attacked and totally blew up going up the last rise before turn 4. Cross eyed at that point. CNB had three bullets left for the sprint with JQ taking 5 th and Oz 8. Race was won by Mike C.
